Returning home
We have survived the 6+ hour trip back from Cincinnati. Actually, it was as painless as a car trip can be. LP slept for most of the first 3 hours, and then was quite content to watch the scenery go by for the rest of the trip. Entering Chicago sucked, since once again we see the complete innadequacy of the infrastructure for the third largest city in the US. But it’s ok, cause Mayor Daley has fought hard to give us pretty parks. At the cost of billions. Five years late.
But this is not to be a political rant. I’m sure the next four weeks will leave me with plenty of opportunity for that. I missed the first debate, but the mindless, misleading, vapid rhetoric is just starting.
Anywho, it was interesting that, unlike Bakkenalia, this gathering of friends was not dominated by Davidson reminiscences. Don’t misunderstand, the references were there, and the quotes were flying. People seemed more like telling newer stories, though. There was a real attempt to catch up with absent parties, especially those that seem to have retreated into shells.
Watching A and L with their two little ‘uns was phenominal. LP did his usual switching from best friend to holy terror with the two L boys. I’m a little concerned about his intense need to “own” everything he sees. I know that that’s typical for 2 yr. olds, but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier to see. Seeing N with all three of them was quite a show. All I could think of as LP wrapped his arms around N was,”How can they not have any kids?” Sigh. I suppose it’s my issue.
Now it’s back home, and back to the grind. Many things to take care of for tomorrow’s classes.
