Things I’ve learned this week (6/26-7/2)
So, for a busy week, there seems to be little going on in the old grey-matter.
- Ribs are as close to perfect beauty as can be achieved short of the female of the species. Ribfest openned again this weekend, and I made my annual pilgrimmage to worship at the smoky altar. This year was different from those previous, with a new crew with which to divide and conquer. Johnson’s and Pig Foot were in their usual locations, and I helped to introduce a new crew to the wonders of the “Thermonuclear Sauce.”
- Nothing is as frustrating as a computer on the blink. After six + years, my old Dell Dimension 8100 finally started to go. Random reboots in the middle of a task. Best I can figure, there’s a problem either with the power supply or the motherboard’s handling of the power. Either way, it was time to move on. In the meantime, there’s no way for me to continue with the consolidation of our music drive – nor update my new best mate, old JimboBillypod. Well, the new computer is coming complete with a 19″ digital flatscreen LCD. Looking forward to WoW on that screen.
- Writing a manifesto is not for the faint-hearted. It’s important to get your ideas down right the first time. First of all, there’s the word: manifesto. Karl has set the bar high. Not in content, mind; that was a load of rubbish, but in the impact.
Next up: reviews of some interesting games I’ve played this month.

Jim,
I read your post regarding your Dell 8100. It’s great that it lasted over six years. I hope your new computer is also a Dell. Please let me know if I can do anything for you.
Feel free to provide further comments about your Dell computer or service. Please contact me at the e-mail below. Look forward to hearing from you.

JimboBillyPod? I can see some Southern roots peeking out!
My Dell arrived the day before we left to come up here (Vallejo). Hope It does what I want. Hope yours does, too. Are you writing a manisfesto? Will you put it here?

Aaron,
Thanks for your concern. We were quite pleased with our 8100 lasting as long as it did, so of course we went with Dell again. This time we elected to purchase an E510 with a couple of upgrades (including the tasty 19″ digital monitor). Here’s hoping for another 6 years!
Jim,
That is great news. If I can be of help, let me know. Good luck.
