30 Games in 30 Days – Day 21
“What game mechanic would you wish to die in a fire?” I’ve been looking forward to this one. There are a number of game mechanics I’ve encountered in 15 years of Euro-gaming that I’ve met with . . . distaste. In general, those mechanics that increase randomness or chaos usually rub me the wrong way. It’s frequently the case that a game requires some randomness or chaos to keep from being solvable or repetitive, but many games exceed my tolerance levels.

“Which game has the mechanic that you find most interesting?” I’m finding that while I was on vacation, I had a sort of flow to my writing. I would go out all day and do my tourist thing, and then retire to our flat in the evening and write while MLW read and my kids slept in the next room. It worked well, because I was 6 or 7 hours ahead of my (mostly) American readership. Now that I’m back, and a little bit wrecked from the jet lag, I have a harder time finding that flow. “What game has your favorite theme?” See people, this is what I’m talking about. Left to my own devices, I come up with a stupid question like this one. Let me quickly make one more plea for visiting and commenting on the “Request” page (link in the sidebar). I am flying back to Chicago this morning, and have sort of, kind of, arbitrarily decided that landing at home and waking up the next morning will be my cut off for submissions. “What game reminds you of a specific person?” I’m going to change the tone a bit here. Six years ago, my best friend Brett tragically took his own life. He had a huge impact on my adult self, helping to form my world view in many ways. Since the event, I have consciously chosen to ignore the skeletons in his closet – he was not a perfect man – and instead I focus on the positive things that he brought to me and my family. One thing he brought to me was my love of gaming.
