How a plucky, middle-aged white man managed to overcome adversity and return to a decades-dead medium

In 2014, I lost control of my website because my domain and web-hosting service determined that it was a security risk. Months of wrangling and reworking the site proved fruitless, so I transferred to a different hosting platform. I almost immediately came across the same problem. Frustrated and out of energy, I parked the domain and have allowed it to remain fallow. Then came 2024, and my brain finally overcame my guilt at just abandoning my site to allow for a whole new hyper focus, so I’m back.

I have missed writing for fun, so welcome to my self-indulgent outlet. Because I was able to save many of the posts from the old version of aweofunderstanding.com, I’ll be reposting what I think are the most interesting conversations as well as writing new material. Where possible, I’ll be reintegrating the comments from past posts (The backup mechanism for the old site was to save posts and comments to separate spreadsheets. This is excellent design. No notes.). I’ll be starting the reposts with my favorite series, 40 posts for 40 years, a riff on one of my oldest friend’s musical playlist for his 40th birthday party.
